Heel Pain (Plantar Fasciitis)

Heel pain is most often caused by plantar fasciitis, a condition that is also known as heel spur syndrome when a spur is present. Heel pain may be caused by factors such as a stress fracture, tendonitis, arthritis, nerve irritation, or, rarely, a cyst.

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the tissue (plantar fascia) that extends from the heel to the toes. Due to the inflammation, the plantar fascia becomes irritated, resulting in heel pain.
