“What is Parkinson’s Disease?”
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects your movement. It develops gradually, sometimes starting with a barely noticeable symptom such as a tremor in just one hand.
In the early stages of Parkinson’s disease, your face may show little to no expression or your arms may not swing when you walk. Your speech may become soft or slurred.
Parkinson’s disease symptoms worsen as your condition progresses over time.
“Signs and Symptoms”
- Tremor in hands at rest together with a back-and-forth rubbing of your thumb and forefinger
- Slowing down of movement and a reduce in ability to move
- Muscle stiffness that limits the range of motion
- Loss of ability in automatic movements (blinking, smiling, etc.)
- Change in speech (Slurred, quick or hesitated talking)
- Loss of ability to write
