Pinched (Compressed) Nerve

A pinched nerve occurs when there is compression or
pressure on a nerve. The pressure may be the result of
repetitive motions or it may happen from holding
your body in one position for long periods of time.
Nerve compression in your neck or arm may also
cause symptoms in areas such as elbow, hand, wrist and fingers.

  • Pain in the area of compression
  • Neck muscle spasm
  • Numbness or tingling at the hands, arms, fingers and/or wrists
  • Tingling sharp pain (The feeling of needles/pins poking) or a burning sensation
  • Weakness in the affected area which can hinder in some functions of that body part

Most of the time, circumstances like this just require a physiotherapist for assured recovery. However, if it is one of the rarer cases where signs and symptoms are not improving and unresolved, you may be referred back to the doctors for consultation and further investigation.
