Patellar Tendinitis

Patellar tendinitis (also known as jumper’s knee) occurs commonly in athletes whose sports involve in frequent jumping. It is an injury of the tendon connecting your patella/kneecap to your shinbone/tibia (large bone in the front of your lower leg) in which causes pain and inflammation of the patella tendon.

  • Gradual increase in pain over a period of activities such as sports
  • At the later stage, pain interferes with daily activities such as climbing stairs and getting up from sitting position
  • Swelling and redness at the area of injury

Treatments include pain relief modalities such as TENS and ultrasound, braces, stretching and strengthening of muscle group.

Most of the time, circumstances like this just require a physiotherapist for assured recovery. However, if it is one of the rarer cases where signs and symptoms are not improving and unresolved, you may be referred back to the doctors for consultation and further investigation.
