Anterior Knee Pain

 

Anterior knee pain is a pain that occurs at the front and centre of the knee. It can refer to many different problems, including Chondromalacia of the patella (softening and breakdown of the cartilage) and Runner’s knee (Patella Tendinitis)

  • Dull aching pain behind, below and the sides the patella
  • Pain arises when getting up from a sitting position
  • Pain worsens when moving downhill or slopes

Treatments include pain relief modalities such as ultrasound and TENS, taping (kinesio tape) and clinical massage.

Most of the time, circumstances like this just require a physiotherapist for assured recovery. However, if it is one of the rarer cases where signs and symptoms are not improving and unresolved, you may be referred back to the doctors for consultation and further investigation.
